Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2002 Cave Run, KY tournament and especially Rick Labuda & Bob Dobiliauskas who walked away with first place honors. Great Job Guys!

The 2002 Cave Run Tournament set all time highs for the PMTT. Most fish in one single day (Saturday) 30. Most fish in a event 48 total. Most contestants ever at the Cave Run Event, 123. Everyone knows the top teams by now, but other special awards went out to the following.

Ranger Cup Winner:

  • Crash Mullins & Joe McCartin, $500

All Star Rods Big Fish Award, $500 each day for
the largest musky and an All Star Rod:

  • Saturday: Dean & Kylie Eoannou (father, daughter team) 43 1/4"
  • Sunday: Dennis Radloff & Gregg Laffin, 40"

Water temps 65 and was about 4 foot high and slightly cloudy because of spring rains. They were much higher 10 to 12 feet higher just a few weeks ago. Weather was overcast both mornings, with on and off periods of rain and sprinkles. Clearing by noon with partly sunny conditions, air temps around 80.

Fish were caught everywhere and with every method. Trollers and casters both boated fish, deep and shallow. Speed and colors didnít seem to matter that much either, they all boated fish. Crank baits seemed to be the best bet, though they were caught on just about everything. The first place team was trolling red Little Ernie crankbaits off of some main lake breaklines close to shore in the 12 to 15 foot range off of the main lake up on the north end of the lake by the dam. They caught both fish on Saturday and were in the lead after day one also. They also caught one undersized musky on Saturday at 29" and lost another on Sunday.

Would like to thanks all the PMTT sponsors and especially Sherri Whinkler and the Morehead, KY Tourism Commission. They always do what ever it takes to bring everyone that down home southern hospitality. Also, would like to thank Crash and Gina Mullins for all their help in making every Cave Run Event such a tremendous success.
